There are opportunities to be involved in choir, jazz ensembles (Junior/Senior), several chamber groups and bands. Each year the South West Music Festival, involving our contributing schools, is held here at the school. Many of our students participate in national and local music events such as Smokefree Rockquest, Christchurch Secondary Schools Orchestral Festival and the Big Sing.

Dance

Extension opportunities exist in Ballet and  also Hip Hop.

Stage Challenge
Large numbers of students have annually involved themselves in Stage Challenge, enjoying much success.

Students in Years 7 and 8 are able to join J Rock.

Drama Drama has always enjoyed a strong and visible presence at Hillmorton with many former students subsequently going on to enjoy success at Hagley Theatre Company and Toi Whakaari. Many opportunities are available at all levels and Theatresports is also an area where students have enjoyed being involved.

Cultural Groups
Hillmorton offers students opportunities to be involved in Kapahaka and a Pasifika Cultural Group. Our Kapahaka group are often called upon to perform at city events and enjoy a reputation of being fine performers. The major focus of our Pasifika Cultural Group is their performance at the Christchurch week long ‘PolyFest’, held at the end of Term 1. Our students again are fast developing a reputation for being outstanding performers at this event and others.
